RPG Sidequest Decks

Created by Inkwell Ideas

Every card is a mini-adventure! Map on one side, outline on the other: GM info, story hooks, encounter plot points, & follow up ideas. Our Kickstarter was to make four new sidequest decks to expand the 11 we made previously (15 in all). And because two of the new Sidequest Decks are related to our previous 9 NPC Decks, you can pick any of those as well. The four new Sidequest Decks are Monster Hunts, Coastal Town Quests, Frontier Town Quests, and Pulp Adventures.

PDFs Sent!

Big Milestone Hit!

I've set up the download codes for the four new Sidequest Deck PDFs (Coastal Town Quests, Frontier Town Quests, Monster Hunts, & Pulp Adventures!) as well as the 6"x6" Town Battlemat Cards PDF in Backerkit.  Backerkit is sending them out.

I want to use the next two weeks to let you all find typos, point out mistakes, etc. As you'll recall, we were trying to match our original deadline (July) while adding 72 bonus stretch goal cards & the 6"x6" Battlemat cards.  I'm very pleased we did, even if we did send these out on the last day of July.

We'll also be revising a few of the maps over these next two weeks.  We did our best to hit the goal, but I think replacing a few maps I'm not floored with will help the final products shine. If you download them before our revisions, you'll be notified as they are updated.

If you do find problems please do send me a private message.  While time won't let us implement every suggestion, we do want to fix any mistakes and do what we can to make the final result the best it can be.

Once the revisions are done we will get the files to the printer and they should have them printed in about a month, then you should have any printed decks you ordered a week or two after that.  I know that's later than originally promised for the printed decks, but hopefully seeing the current PDFs now and knowing we're making them even better is reassuring.  And keep in mind that we used the time to make the stretch goals of 72 bonus cards & the 6"x6" cards.

Thanks again!

Joe

P.S. Because the 6x6 cards weren't their own selection--you got them if you got any of the new decks, we had to set them up multiple times. (If you  picked the coastal quests, or the frontier quests, or the pulp  adventures, or the monster hunts.)  There is only one 6x6 deck.  It  seems Backerkit isn't set up to ignore duplicates as I hoped so most of you may get that same 6x6 deck link multiple times.

Nearing Completion & Charging BackerKit Cards!
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jul 20, 2021 at 07:13:58 PM

Hi All,

I love bullet points, because I know it is hard for me to keep track of the projects I back.  Here is where we are:

  • Writing has been done.
  • We've finished editing two of the decks and we're working on the other two.
  • We're still working on 13 maps (out of about 270!) and we're making revisions to the other maps where we can improve the look.
  • The 6"x6" cards are likewise waiting on the map revisions.

Note: PDFs of our previously created decks (all except Monster Hunts, Pulp Adventures, Coastal Town Quests, Frontier Town Quests, & the 6x6" cards) have gone out to people who selected them in BackerKit. If you haven't gotten an invite to fill in your survey, try this link. If that link/recovery email doesn't work for you, please send a private message.  (I can't post your individual link as a public reply.)

We're still on track to meet the original delivery date of the new PDFs although it will obviously be late July instead of early July. The printed decks (both decks we created previously & the new decks) will be out about 6 weeks after the PDFs.  While that is a little later than planned, hopefully getting the remaining PDFs soon is reassuring.

Finally, as this update's Headline announces, we'll be charging credit/bank cards that most of you have set up for shipping & add-ons via BackerKit on Thursday of this week.  We've pushed this off to be as close to the release of the new PDFs as possible--and those will be out by the end of the month.

Thank you again for your support!  We truly are putting a lot of time into make these Sidequest Decks incredibly useful for your game.

Time For A Project Update!
almost 3 years ago – Sat, Jul 10, 2021 at 10:40:39 PM

Hi All,

Here's the high-level project update:

  • Writing is complete.
  • Two decks are in their final round of editing the text, the other two will be next week.
  • Maps: Coastal Town Quests: 90% done, Frontier Town Quests: 90% done, Pulp Adventures: 66% done, Monster Hunts: 50% done, 6"x6" Battlemat Cards 75% done.

We're still on track to finish these & get the PDFs/digital rewards to you by the end of the month.  The printed decks will be later--about 4-6 weeks after the PDFs release.  Thank you for your patience! Please remember we added 18 cards to each of the four Sidequest Decks--72 extra cards in all.

If you haven't done your survey, please do!  We have sent the PDFs of all decks previously created to our backers who have finished the survey.  Once you finish it, the PDFs link codes will get to you within two days. (I have to lock the orders which I do once a day, and BackerKit sends the links once a day.) The new decks (listed above after "Maps") will be sent to you when ready later this month.

If for some reason you need your survey link, you can recover it here: https://rpg-sidequest-decks.backerkit.com/

If you need other help (the survey recovery doesn't work for example) please send a Private Message.  (I can't include your custom link code in a comment reply.)

Thank you,

Joe

Exisiting/Previous Deck PDFs Sent, New Decks Next Month
almost 3 years ago – Thu, Jun 24, 2021 at 12:50:11 PM

Hi All,

I've been getting this question a good bit, so I figured an update may help.

We've begun sending the PDFs of our previous decks out to backers who have completed their surveys (or if you were re-sent the survey link, once that is done). If you haven't yet, once you do links to the digital PDFs will be sent within a day or so. It is done automatically once a day, so it depends on when BackerKit kicks off its email process--I don't know when that is.

Our four new decks (Monster Hunts, Pulp Adventures, Coastal Town Quests, & Frontier Town Quests) are written, but we are still working on the maps and editing them.  We do expect to send the PDFs next month. So if you picked several PDFs and are missing any of these 4, that is expected for now.

We sent the PDFs of our previous decks out earlier than the new ones because there wasn't a reason to make you wait any longer for them. If we hadn't been delayed by some setup issues, we would have sent them two weeks ago.

The printed decks need to go out all together. (Even if you only picked existing decks, we need to give everyone more time to fill in their surveys, we need to print more, and our distributor will prefer to do them all at once.) A few weeks after the new PDFs are ready, our distributor will get the printed decks and send them out to you.

Thank you for your support,

Joe

Re-Surveys?! I'm Confused Too, But Here Is Some Explanation...
almost 3 years ago – Wed, Jun 23, 2021 at 03:29:40 AM

Hi Folks,

I've heard from a bunch of you that have gotten a second survey link after completing the survey in the past. I'm still waiting to hear back from BackerKit for the specifics of why that happened, but I know some of the why and I have some speculation for the rest.

Today, I decided to "Lock" surveys in BackerKit for those who completed them already in preparation to send out the PDFs of the decks we've made previously.

I think that for some folks who answered the survey early, if I added an extra option (for example the printed 6"x6" cards weren't originally an option for people who were only getting PDFs) or if I fixed a typo in a question then BackerKit wanted those backers who could have picked that item or saw that question to see it and confirm.  Again, I'm waiting on BackerKit support to confirm this, but that's my best guess.

So the key point is: We haven't charged any cards yet for the BackerKit add-ons & shipping.  You won't be double-charged for that.  Please do follow the survey link a second time and simply re-confirm your prior choices.  If you want to wait until I have confirmation before you follow that second survey link, that's OK too--I'll post when I know more.  I contacted BackerKit a few hours ago, but their office is closed now, so I figured I'd share what I do know at this point.

And just a quick general update: All cards for the new decks have now been written, we're 10% further on with our maps, and we're well into editing.  I do expect to send the PDFs of prior decks to backers who have answered the survey in the next day or two.  This issue of needing to Lock orders is the only hold up.  For anyone who completes their survey late, I'll be Locking surveys daily so you'll get the PDFs for any prior decks within 24 hours of finishing the survey.  Note: Because I know a large number of people find DriveThru's "My Library" feature worthwhile, we'll be giving you coupon codes to get the PDFs from there at no cost.  In any case, you'll be able to download your PDFs from there and then store it as you wish--but it integrates with DropBox and you can always re-download it from their servers in case you switch computers or accidentally delete it, etc.

I'm sorry to ask you to do this again, if it applies to you.  I've previously used CrowdOx as a pledge manager and feel comfortable with that, but BackerKit bought them a few months ago.
