RPG Sidequest Decks

Created by Inkwell Ideas

Every card is a mini-adventure! Map on one side, outline on the other: GM info, story hooks, encounter plot points, & follow up ideas. Our Kickstarter was to make four new sidequest decks to expand the 11 we made previously (15 in all). And because two of the new Sidequest Decks are related to our previous 9 NPC Decks, you can pick any of those as well. The four new Sidequest Decks are Monster Hunts, Coastal Town Quests, Frontier Town Quests, and Pulp Adventures.

New Fantasy Sidequest & NPC Decks Kickstarter Launching Soon
about 1 year ago – Sun, Jan 29, 2023 at 09:25:38 AM

Hey Folks,

We're excited to announce our next Kickstarter, Fantasy Sidequest & NPC Decks is launching in about two months!  Following it via Kickstarter here really helps us plan things out, so if you're interested please follow that link and click the "Notify me on Launch" button.

We looked at the results we had from the survey we posted about a month ago and saw the results grouped into three "buckets": All of the core fantasy deck ideas did best (the castles, tavern, desert outpost, & mini-lairs), followed by the fantasy adjacent ideas (things like pirates or weird fantasy) and then other ideas (western, cyberpunk) were last.  We do plan to do those others--but we're going to lead with what to poll told us.

So we're going to make the four fantasy sidequest decks I mentioned above, and we're going to make matching NPC decks for each.  They can be totally used independently--if you just need an NPC of the cook in a tavern you'll have one (probably even two or three).  Or if you want a sidequest of a tavern about the kitchen, you'll have at least one of them too. But having both decks will add some extra depth.  This is similar to what we did with the Frontier Town and Coastal Town decks.  And like them the related cards will have the same number: if card #10 is the cook in the Tavern NPCs deck, then card #10 of the Tavern Sidequests deck will be about the kitchen or somehow related to the cook or cooking.  But again, one deck won't be essential to the other.

Thanks again for your interest & support!

New Sidequests & NPC Decks Survey
over 1 year ago – Wed, Dec 21, 2022 at 05:28:33 AM

Hey Folks,

As we wrap up 2022 it is time to think of what to do in 2023.  We've got a lot going on already, but I wanted to ask you if you're interested in more/new Sidequest and/or NPC decks and which genres & settings you're interested in seeing.  We also ask about switching to a larger (tarot size) format.

The next Kickstarter might do the decks in pairs instead of one Kickstarter for NPCs and another for Sidequests.  For example, if we do a Sidequest Deck of adventures that center on a tavern, we'd have a deck of tavern NPCs.  And if in the NPC deck card #5 has a baker, then card #5 in the sidequest would likely be related to baking/the kitchen and/or mention a baker. But the two decks could fully be used independently.

Here is the link to the survey.

Thank you!

New Dungeonmorphs Kickstarter Launched!
almost 2 years ago – Fri, Apr 29, 2022 at 06:45:29 AM

This is a friendly reminder to you, most excellent backers, that earlier this week we launched dungeonMorphs IV the next iteration of this project in case you didn't see our email.  We've got 3 new dice sets (crypts, lairs, & sewers):

As you can tell, we're doing the dice sets in color, and we're even re-releasing all the older sets in colors too! Plus as before we're making a 2.5" old-school-blue card deck, 10" battlemat tiles, and a book of ideas to use with the designs.

Another great thing about the project is most of our stretch goals are to add more dice to the sets at no extra cost to you! And as we add dice, everything else grows to  match: more 2.5″ cards, more 10″ battlemats, & the book gets larger  to describe the extra lairs, sewers, or crypts!  We've already hit one of these and we're bound to hit a few more!

What's different/new? (Besides the set themes.)

The book's focus is changing: We'll be giving you six descriptions for the major parts of each design. Some of these follow a specific theme (like a family's tombs covering generations) and some options are  more random.  So you can pick the options that follow the theme you select or look at the more random ones.  The book will also have a framework for how to run tabletop RPG's with an oracle-based solo/co-op  (GM-less) system & the DungeonMorphs.  There are also several scenarios.  Samples of each of those (the descriptions, solo/co-op  framework, and a scenario) are linked on the project page.

We're also providing JPGs of the maps for easier use than the PDFs on VTTs.

Thank you for your support!

This Kickstarter is Complete! & Last Call
about 2 years ago – Tue, Apr 19, 2022 at 04:25:36 AM

Hi Everyone!

Our shipments throughout the UK & EU finished up a few weeks ago, so everyone should have their rewards.  (Yay!)  I truly hope you're enjoying them.  If you don't have what you expected, let me know.  I am committed to making sure everyone gets what they pledged for.  But with 3000+ folks, it is totally possible some people are still waiting. We tried really hard to reach everyone via project updates, emails from us, emails from Backerkit, and even Kickstarter private messages sent individually to try to get around spam filters.

Didn't Get Everything Yet?

In any case, I'm happy to work with you to get you what you pledged for (if you missed the pledge manager, misunderstood it, or one of us dropped the ball when clarifying some options via PMs or email). If you want printed decks and only picked PDFs or you want to add decks, I can invoice you the difference based on the prices in this KS (which in general are better than our store's.  Just send me a private message or an email (joe at inkwellideas dot com) and we'll get it sorted out.  Our store has the full list of Sidequest Decks and NPC Decks. Note: The 6x6" Battlemats was $25 as an add-on, but the PDF was free for everyone who backed this Kickstarter for any of the new Sidequest Decks.

Next: DungeonMorphs

And what's next for us? Next week we plan to launch our newest DungeonMorphs project.  We waited for them to go out to the vast majority of backers.  We've got three new set's of 1" dice with crypt, lair, & sewer map designs engraved on each side.  Plus we'll have matching 2.5" cards, a 10" set of cards (aka Tiles), and a book with a framework to use the dice with any RPG in a Solo/Co-op way as well as descriptions for each of the designs to flesh them out a bit--for inspiration when making a traditional scenario or for Solo/Co-op support.  You can check this post for more details & links to samples.  To be notified on launch of the new Kickstarter, click this link then the "Notify me on launch" button.

EU/UK Shipping Soon!
about 2 years ago – Fri, Mar 11, 2022 at 11:33:33 AM

Hello Backers,

I hope our long, hard slog to get shipping done in this logistics environment is over.  I missed updating on Friday last week because I was waiting on an update from Shipquest who is doing our EU/UK fulfillment.

They received the decks a little over two weeks ago, so I had hoped they would take a few days to inventory them and then get them out the door to you.  But I don't know their process and how many other commitments they have, so in hindsight that was a guess/hope.

I just received an update from them with samples of how the items will be shipped and all the order information imported into their system.  I've just looked all of that over and approved it. They will send me an invoice for my shipping payment, and I'll pay it as soon as it arrives.  Then they say shipping will begin 2-3 business days later.  That invoice hasn't shown up yet, but I have no reason to believe it won't be sent tomorrow. So based on that I'm hopeful these will be sent to all EU/UK backers late this week.

Again, sorry this is dragging out, but I'm doing my best to stay on top of it.

Joe
